“JIZO” in HAWAII With guest speaker John Clark

“Jizo” are Japanese revered statues whose purpose is to protect the people. They are commonly seen in the countryside of Japan. They are also seen in various places in Hawaii, especially near the sea.

John R. Kukeakalani Clark is the author of Guardian of the Sea: Jizo in Hawaii . John closed an illustrious chapter of his life when he retired as Deputy Fire Chief of the Honolulu Fire Department. A 33- year veteran, he left a proud legacy and even coined the department’s motto, “Pride, Service, Dedication.” This true-blue firefighter is better known to most of the world as “Mr. Beach,” the author of a celebrated series of books on the beaches of Hawai‘i.

Little C's Weekly Challenge #14 October 21, 2008

Jen is still putting out these great challenges! This one uses a sketch, and NO SENTIMENT.

To play along, go to Little C’s Blog. Prizes given each week – what have you got to lose?

I’ve used Springtime Hanna (purchased from Little C’s) and turned her into a Christmas beauty!
Hanna Stamps

And look what we have! My daughter’s teacher asked her class if anyone wanted kittens, and Chelsea couldn’t reisist! Meet “Mittens”:

Soooo cute! We are slowly introducing her to Kit and Jax, but those king-sized kitties are scared to death of her. Can you believe it? They hiss and run away.

Magical Season October 15, 2008

Filed under: Cards,Close To My Heart,Kit, Jax, and Mittens — JC @ 6:00 pm

The last time I used Fun Flock, I put it on Christmas trees thinking it would look snowy. Wrong! My daughter said it just looked weird. So here’s my second Fun Flock attempt:

Snowflake Kisses October 14, 2008

Filed under: Cards,Close To My Heart,Kit, Jax, and Mittens — JC @ 6:00 pm

This was a card I made with my card club this past weekend. I’ve had the stamp set for a while and wanted to use it, but it kind of just sat on my desk. Sat and waited. And waited and waited. Anybody out there know what I mean? It took the last-minute “I need a card quick” boost before it got used.

Snowflake Kisses
All items from Close To My Heart:
Stamp sets: Annotations, Snowflake Kisses, Ritzy Ribbon
Inks: Crystal Blue, Heavenly Blue, Amethyst
Papers: Amethyst, Heavenly Blue, Crystal Blue, White Daisy cardstock
Other: Prisma Glitter, corner rounder

Here’s a close-up so you can see the glitter. I just put little spots of it:

And Kit’s leg says,

“Back! Stay back, before I take the claws out.”
